Wonder

"Everyone in the world should get a standing ovation at least once in their life because we all overcometh the world". - August Pullman

Wonder - we are all wonders, we just have to find our place in the world.  Insipired by the author's own personal experience Wonder by R. J. Palacio is set in New York City and told from a variety of different character's points of view.   August Pullman is a young boy who was born with a face that only a mother (or family) could love.  He has been homeschooled for the first 10 years of his life, but this is the year that he will attend public school!  His parents fight over the decision, but they both know that he must do it.
Enter Mr. Tushman and a cast of characters from Beecher Prep - a private school. Auggie meets several students and settles into the 5th grade.   Auggie is smart, loves Star Wars and proclaims Halloween as his favorite holiday, because dressing up and wearing a mask makes him feel like he fits in.  Only this Halloween a situation occurs that reveals dark secrets and hurtful words.  Friendship, peer pressure, and honesty are all tested in this book where being different means "You can't fit in when you were born to stand out".   Auggie is scared to attend the annual Beecher Prep 5th Nature Retreat but it holds the key to his success!  Don't miss out on a book that demands you read it!  It will show you that one must be kinder than necessary.
